India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.10%

India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Capital GoodsMetals and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.10%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.06%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which rose 4.89% or 92.50 points to trade at 1,984.65 at the close. Meanwhile, Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) added 3.23% or 98.35 points to end at 3,139.75 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) was up 2.76% or 69.70 points to 2,592.40 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY), which fell 6.89% or 335.30 points to trade at 4,532.00 at the close. Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) declined 5.17% or 122.30 points to end at 2,242.15 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) was down 3.57% or 15.60 points to 420.85.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which rose 3.22% to 3,138.60, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was up 2.76% to settle at 2,591.80 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which gained 1.44% to close at 179.45.

The worst performers were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was down 6.89% to 4,532.40 in late trade, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which lost 5.29% to settle at 2,241.65 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 1.19% to 420.35 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1160 to 724 and 93 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1947 rose and 1416 declined, while 146 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.01% to 13.22 a new 1-month high.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.13% or 2.65 to $2,034.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.61% or 0.44 to hit $73.00 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.62% or 0.47 to trade at $76.88 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.23% to 82.11, while EUR/INR fell 0.27% to 89.68.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.43% at 101.71.
