India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.45%

India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Power, Public Sector Undertakings and IT sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.45%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.45%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Divi’s Laboratories Ltd. (NS:DIVI), which rose 0.98% or 34.30 points to trade at 3,543.85 at the close. Meanwhile, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) added 0.91% or 21.80 points to end at 2,416.25 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC) was up 0.51% or 13.90 points to 2,715.90 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC), which fell 2.46% or 2.80 points to trade at 111.10 at the close. Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) declined 2.44% or 176.15 points to end at 7,030.00 and Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:TACN) was down 2.12% or 18.25 points to 841.90.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which rose 0.95% to 2,416.10, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 0.55% to settle at 843.30 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which gained 0.49% to close at 2,715.10.

The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 2.46% to 111.10 in late trade, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which lost 2.35% to settle at 7,033.80 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 1.98% to 3,249.00 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1339 to 603 and 54 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2110 fell and 1286 advanced, while 122 ended unchanged.

Shares in Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) rose to all time highs; rising 0.91% or 21.80 to 2,416.25. Shares in Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) rose to all time highs; rising 0.95% or 22.80 to 2,416.10.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.26% to 11.55.

Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.36% or 7.05 to $1,937.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 1.68% or 1.22 to hit $71.31 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.67% or 1.29 to trade at $75.83 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.04% to 81.97, while EUR/INR rose 0.20% to 90.20.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 101.61.
