India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.19%

India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Auto, Green Energy and Capital Goods sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.19%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.21%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Divi’s Laboratories Ltd. (NS:DIVI), which rose 2.13% or 76.65 points to trade at 3,677.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) added 1.72% or 16.25 points to end at 963.55 and Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR) was up 1.20% or 4.75 points to 400.15 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which fell 2.57% or 56.80 points to trade at 2,152.00 at the close. Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) declined 2.09% or 151.10 points to end at 7,069.90 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) was down 1.93% or 30.55 points to 1,554.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 1.48% to 961.60, HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was up 1.18% to settle at 1,323.95 and Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which gained 1.16% to close at 400.00.

The worst performers were Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was down 2.11% to 7,067.30 in late trade, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which lost 1.96% to settle at 1,553.00 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which was down 1.37% to 8,672.85 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1069 to 1038 and 53 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1862 fell and 1821 advanced, while 159 ended unchanged.

Shares in Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) rose to all time highs; up 1.72% or 16.25 to 963.55. Shares in Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) rose to all time highs; up 1.48% or 14.00 to 961.60. Shares in HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 1.18% or 15.40 to 1,323.95.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.71% to 12.15 a new 1-month high.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.31% or 6.15 to $1,978.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.99% or 0.75 to hit $76.79 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.97% or 0.78 to trade at $81.39 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.08% to 83.36, while EUR/INR rose 0.68% to 91.09.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.32% at 103.46.
