India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.25%

India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Banking, Capital Goods and Metals sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.25%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.33%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which rose 2.42% or 10.90 points to trade at 461.25 at the close. Meanwhile, Axis Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) added 2.32% or 22.20 points to end at 979.25 and ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) was up 1.56% or 14.85 points to 966.85 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which fell 6.22% or 167.75 points to trade at 2,530.30 at the close. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) declined 3.37% or 28.80 points to end at 825.70 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) was down 1.22% or 13.85 points to 1,123.70.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 2.23% to 978.80, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was up 1.51% to settle at 576.90 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which gained 1.49% to close at 966.25.

The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 1.22% to 1,122.85 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 1.16% to settle at 867.30 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 0.90% to 1,200.90 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1172 to 831 and 59 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1993 rose and 1497 declined, while 156 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.17% to 11.73.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.22% or 4.15 to $1,930.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.53% or 1.22 to hit $78.42 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.45% or 1.22 to trade at $82.81 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.43% to 82.74, while EUR/INR fell 0.76% to 89.44.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.36% at 103.85.
