AT&T Inc. is setting the stage for a new joint venture in collaboration with Chicago-based WillJam Ventures, aimed at delivering managed cybersecurity services tailored for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The formation of this standalone entity marks a strategic move to blend advanced security software solutions with managed operations, addressing the growing cybersecurity challenges faced by businesses.

The telecom giant will retain an ownership stake and board representation in the venture, which is expected to be operational by the first quarter of 2024. While the financial details of the transaction are not public, the initiative signals AT&T’s ongoing commitment to integrating network security solutions into its service offerings.

Rick Welday, an executive at AT&T, emphasized the importance of integrated solutions in combating cybersecurity threats effectively. Bob McCullen from WillJam Ventures highlighted the venture as a strategic response to the evolving threats and a broader industry skills gap in cybersecurity. The deal is currently under regulatory review and is anticipated to reach completion early next year.

This collaboration aims to provide SMEs with robust managed security operations and consulting services, leveraging AT&T’s network-integrated security expertise. As cyber threats continue to evolve, this joint venture represents a proactive approach to safeguarding critical digital assets for businesses operating in an increasingly interconnected landscape.
