German automaker, Mercedes-Benz disclosed Thursday its successful negotiation with BMW to establish a collaborative partnership to focus on a robust charging network for high-powered electric vehicles in China.

The company, in its statement, outlined plans to install a minimum of 1,000 high-power charging stations, adding around 7,000 charging points across the country by the end of 2026. However, the finalization of the deal is contingent upon obtaining regulatory approval.

The initial set of stations is scheduled to begin operations in 2024, targeting regions that exhibit higher electric vehicle sales.

Earlier this year, Mercedes-Benz had revealed its intention to invest billions of euros to build an extensive charging network of 10,000 fast-charging points across North America, Europe, and China by 2030.
