Tata Motors (NYSE:TTM) is ramping up its electric vehicle (EV) portfolio with the upcoming launch of the Punch EV, set to join the company’s growing lineup of electric models before the end of the year. The new small SUV will be Tata’s fourth electric offering, following the Nexon, Tigor, and Tiago, and aims to make a mark in India’s competitive EV market.

The Punch EV has been captured on video during road tests in India, draped in camouflage yet revealing certain design elements. Notably, it features LED headlights that bear resemblance to those on the facelifted version of the Nexon EV. Additionally, it sports a connected daylight running light (DRL) similar to the Nexon at the front, alongside new five-spoke alloy wheels and taillights that have been tweaked to align with the Nexon EV’s aesthetics.

Inside, the Punch EV is expected to offer a fresh experience with a redesigned instrument cluster providing essential EV information. Anticipated features include a two-spoke steering wheel adorned with a digital logo, a choice between a 7-inch or 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a rotary-style gear shifter. The vehicle may also include an electronic parking brake—a feature not commonly found in this segment.

Comfort and convenience are set to be high on the agenda with potential offerings such as automatic climate control, wireless charging, and possibly even a sunroof. Safety has not been overlooked either, with the Punch EV likely to incorporate six airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), electronic stability control (ESC), and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

With its imminent arrival, the Punch EV is poised to compete directly with rivals like the Citroen eC3, as Tata Motors continues to solidify its position in India’s burgeoning electric vehicle market.
