Tesla recalls Model X,S due to improper airbags

According to a notice by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Thursday, electric vehicle maker, Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) is recalling 159 Model S and Model X cars due to an issue concerning the vehicle’s airbag systems.

According to the notice, the incorrect airbags may have been installed in select models made in 2021-2023 when the steering yoke or round steering wheel was replaced with a different style of yoke or steering wheel. The improper airbag may deploy incorrectly, increasing the possibility of injury during a crash.

As of November 3, 2023, Tesla is not aware of any injuries or deaths relating to this condition.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed January 2, 2024. Tesla Service will inspect and replace the driver air bag as necessary, free of charge.

Shares of TSLA are down 0.97% in pre-market trading on Thursday.
